People often expect salvaged wood to be inexpensive. We wish it were. In fact, reclaimed wood is often more expensive than your run of the mill fresh sawn wood. Think of it as any fine antique with a history and a story to tell.

Here are just a few reasons why reclaimed wood is so valued:
  • In most cases, the wood is antique originating from the old growth forests cut by our founding fathers. Note: less than 10% of the forests the colonists knew remain today.
  • Some species are not only antique, but the last relics of these extraordinary forests, as is the case with Chestnut and Elm, both wiped out by blights in the early 1900's. Our products are sourced from agricultural buildings, factories, and warehouses that have outlived their purpose and must be taken down. We have a deconstruction crew and acquisitions manager that work to rescue this antique wood.
  • Once at our shops in New York and Oregon, the wood goes thru a "de-nailing" process where our team uses metal detectors to rid the wood of artifacts like nails, bolts, and other metal or foreign objects.

Other factors that can affect the final price of your floor include species, type, and finish.
