Choosing wood siding for your home increases curb appeal. Maintenance can be minimized through high-quality finishes, and installation is uncomplicated. Choosing an eco-friendly material, like solid wood, with healthy finishes is a way to clad your home in style while doing good for our planet.

Healthy Options for the Exterior of Your Home

ACCOYA®

Accoya® is a sustainably harvested softwood modified through “acetylation”, a process where food-grade vinegar is added to the wood. This changes the fiber structure, in a non-toxic way, making it extremely stable and moisture, rot, and pest resistant. Accoya is accredited by FSC® and is Cradle to Cradle Gold certified™, comes with a 50 year warranty, takes well to stains, paints, or can be left to weather naturally.

DOUGLAS FIR

Douglas fir siding is a classic material in the Pacific Northwest where these FSC®-certified trees grow in abundance. The durability of Doug fir is well known, plus it has consistent rot and pest resistance. Our Douglas fir siding is vertical grain, highlighting the clean striping of the wood through an array of finish colors. It is also available pre-primed and ready for your favorite exterior paint.

LARCH

Larch is native to the Pacific Northwest and its rot and critter resistance rival the more common Douglas fir. We like it because it’s an underutilized species, meaning that upon harvest it is typically mixed in with Doug fir, separated out for use as heating fuel, or left to rot. The swirling grain of Larch is highlighted as a siding material, showcased with stain colors or muted when pre-primed ready for paint. Consider it tops for curb appeal.

Shou Sugi Ban

All three of these species are also available as charred paneling, known as the traditional Japanese Yakisugi or Shou Sugi Ban. This material is classically black, but we offer it in an array of browns, greys, whites, and colors suitable for exterior siding. All made here in American from our mills in Oregon and New York.

Sustainability

At Pioneer Millworks, we aim to bring you the most sustainable building material options for your home. Our focus is wood because of its natural beauty, role in carbon sequestration which helps fight climate change, inherent health benefits, and being naturally non-toxic.

Other siding materials may tout low maintenance, ease of installation, or green-washing promises—but wood is the truly classic, gracefully aging, and planet-friendly option for exterior siding. Our Natural Wood Siding options give you sustainability, durability, and a designer-friendly palette all in one choice.
