Rediscover History

“When you think about our Settlers Plank wood’s history, you see why it’s so prized: the timbers and joists we craft the grade from were cut in the late 1800’s from trees that probably started to grow in the 1600s. Now, after 100+ years supporting buildings, the timbers and planks begin anew, offering unmatched history, the beauty of tighter growth rings, greater stability, original wear marks, and deeper patinas,” says Jered Slusser, Sales Manager at Pioneer Millworks.

We source, reclaim, and reimagine these robust timbers and begin the process of providing them with a brand-new usefulness as flooring, paneling, siding, and more.

The red and white Oak timbers that form the foundation of our Settlers Plank once provided the sturdy structure for America’s deep agricultural history as the core frames of barns, outbuildings, and homes.

We carefully skip plane our reclaimed Settlers’ Plank material so that at least 50% of the overall surface has the remains of its original saw marks, patina, and tones. These rugged elements are the hallmarks of the grade.  The juxtaposition of the rough, darker original texture with newly revealed smooth and bright grains creates a rich character perfect for accent walls or flooring.

This sort of inherent detailing can be found in every single Settlers Plank board eliciting a rich history through its beautiful textures and color variations.

For client’s wanting a durable and lived-in look, the exquisite scarring and the natural detailing from age and a life well lived are found here are markers in this timeless grade.

Our Settler’s Plank comes in a mix of widths and lengths and is a great choice for high-traffic spaces, houses with dogs, or those looking to hide every-day dirt and use. Because it has a rugged look right from install, it ages well, growing even better over time.

If finished with a hardwax oil, Settlers’ Plank is easy to touch up should you need to; all it requires is a little sandpaper, a splash of touch up oil, and a cloth to buff. It also takes well to color finishes if a different tone over the unmatched texture is desired.

FSC Certified and crafted in the USA, if you are looking to add a roughhewn touch to a high craft home or lend a minimalist refined look to a contemporary build, Settler’s Plank can do both in a way that’s good for you and the planet.
