Working for Pioneer Millworks Reclaimed and Sustainable Wood Products

Pioneer Millworks operates on the triple bottom line—a simple belief that people, planet, and profit work together to ensure a better future. We give to our local and global communities.

Our coworkers are more than just employees, they’re part of what makes our company timeline long and successful. We are a work well, pay well company—we pay our employees at least $15 after 90 days. We care about our craftsmen, we all work hard, and that transfers into every one of our client projects. With of these investments in our people, we have begun the process to become an employee-owned company.

When you work with us, you are working in a mill a shop that runs on solar power and is heated from our own timber scrap. We've  processed over 1 million board feet of reclaimed wood for the past 25 years, saving this wood from landfills, incineration, and rot. Our Earth is a place we want to leave well for the next generation through buildings that are energy-efficient and enduring.

When we take care of our people and our planet, we are more profitable. This enables us to invest in efforts that make a difference to our workers’ families, our local and global communities, creates a healthier planet, and most importantly builds a thoughtful company that creates quality partnerships.

Pioneer Millworks doesn't discriminate for all the right reasons, but we are partial to smart people with lots of common sense. We prefer email responses to the posts below, but you can always come to our mills to fill out an application if you do not have access to email.

Outside Sales—Portland, OR

We’re looking for a B2B business-to-business sales professional to add to our West Coast team based out of Portland. The right person is a problem-solving relationship builder who knows how to captivate an architect/designer but can also walk their talk to builders/installers. Our line of reclaimed and sustainable wood products is varied and nuanced, so a love for creative material and collaborating with those with a vision is a must. You’ll be part of a larger whole with support and subject matter experts; we’re really looking for a friendly outward facing teammate who wants to win the sale, beat their goal, and laugh with us along the way.

What you’ll do:

  • Sell reclaimed and sustainable wood siding, paneling, and flooring.
  • Find new opportunities with clients we’ve served successfully in your territories.
  • Pick up the phone and forge new relationships.
  • Travel in your territories to meet with builders/designers in person.
  • Follow the sale through the chain of architect/designer > builder > installer to a successful close resulting in new relationships.
  • Have the opportunity to earn a predictable income of $75K to $100K+
  • Sell wood siding, paneling and flooring.

What the right person has:

  • A proven B2B business- to- business sales record.
  • An outgoing personality—with a desire to work with creatives AND implementors in the building industry.
  • Experience selling a varied product—ours isn’t a choose A, B, or C scenario.
  • Experience in a CRM—ours is Salesforce and we’d love it if you know it already.
  • Plays well with others—you’ll have a team behind you helping you to be successful.
  • Attention to detail—there’s a big difference between a linear foot and square feet (also you’ll need math skills).
  • Ability to travel regionally—25% of the month.
  • Bonus: if you come from the building industry, can do take-offs, or have an interior/architectural design background.

What we’ll do:

  • Provide training on reclaimed and sustainable wood products and our processes so you’re ready to be the best sales person you can be.
  • Set clear and achievable goals and expectations.
  • Pay you a commission based on your sales after your ramp-up time.
  • Provide you with sales and marketing support and as well as subject matter experts so you don’t have to go it alone.
  • Provide benefits such as: holidays, paid time off, health insurance, 401K with matching, and more.
  • Make you an employee-owner through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) when you’ve been with us a year.
  • Help you become part of the climate change solution through your work with our sustainable building products.

Want to throw your hat in the ring? Send us an email with your resume and cover letter telling us WHY you want in. We’re partial to those with common sense, but don’t discriminate otherwise, and we apologize, but not all inquiries will be responded to.
