Salt of the Earth

“We explored so many different options, but we just landed on the lighter tone. The clients were really into what I would call more Norwegian style residence images, and the Salt Flats color was perfect.” says architect Theresa Pangelinan director of Northworks Architectural Firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“I have to say that when the clients saw the Salt Flats, they said, ‘This is what we want,’ It was a one and done and that was very exciting. When they honed in on their choice … and we had looked at other companies as well, there was nothing else like this. The only hesitation was that we didn’t have any install photos. So, we were all a little bit hesitant because of how light the color was, and how light it would really come out, but in the end, it came out just gorgeous.”
The varied tones in our Salt Flat Larch siding assimilate and pop. Containing depth and detail in large scale, its diverse palette fit the needs of the client, while also fulfilling the aesthetic fit of its natural surroundings.
The durability and rot resistance of Larch is also paramount and rivals that of Douglas fir, which makes it a great option for exterior uses. Larch’s signature swirling grain and small tight knots brings a biophilic elegance to all vertical applications. Sourced from sustainably harvested PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) trees grown in the Pacific Northwest and crafted in the USA, beauty isn’t the only thing to admire about our siding.

Pangelinan says, “What we try to make a priority outside of the aesthetic, is what will it be long term for the client and what kind of maintenance it will require. Sustainability is always going to be our back end, and the primary concern is the longevity and whether they are going to have to seal again or finish again and the weathering. This project in particular it came down to understanding that Pioneer Millworks provides a fantastic product, and AJ, our salesperson, being very thorough about what it means to maintain this with the client, and the driver was the finish and the cost.”
Pangelinan continues, “It starts with the aesthetics and then we are always assuring that the product itself visually is what the client would want. Sometimes that means that they are ok with biannual maintenance or if a product the requires a whole refinish. Trying to avoid any kind of warping period, those are typically our objectives. The beauty of wood siding now and with all of the products that Pioneer Millworks has its just endless, the species, the finishes, the grains, the cuts, and its customized client to client.”
“Our experience was absolutely flawless. I would work with Pioneer Millworks again in a heartbeat. Interior finishes are something we want to explore more and continue to utilize. Everything was fantastic, getting samples, getting mockups, literature, the entire process.”
